About Macaroni Kid Johnstown - Laurel Highlands - Altoona Edition

Macaroni Kid covers the area of Johnstown, Ligonier, Ebensburg and Somerset, but our home base is Johnstown!

Best known for the 1889 flood which killed over 2000 people in 15 minutes, Johnstown Pennsylvania is the best kept secret of western Pennsylvania.  Friendly, safe and clean, it is a wonderful place to raise a family.  It's a place where instead of people giving you directions if you are lost, they will put aside what they are doing and lead you there!

Johnstown started out as a thriving steel town and ideal mountain retreat for the wealthy gentry during the 1800's.  It produced more steel in it's heydey than was produced in the "Steel City" of Pittsburgh.

Now, nestled in the beautiful Laurel Mountains, Johnstown is a regional medical, educational, and communications center.  Home to the world class Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Bottleworks Ethnic Arts Center, Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown Campus, there is always something to enjoy!

When I saw Macaroni Kid, I jumped on the opportunity to share what is so special about Johnstown with others! My name is Julie Follansbee and I'm a wife, mother of 16 year old, former dressmaker turned alpaca rancher (http://www.laurelhighlandsalpacas.com) and now newsletter publisher!  I hope you enjoy the newsletter and pass it on to friends!  I also welcome your suggestions for activities!  Join in the community forum and contribute to or comment on anything!

About Macaroni Kid

Macaroni Kid and its family of Publisher Moms are dedicated to delivering the scoop on all the family-friendly events and activities happening in their communities each week. Check out Macaroni Kid’s list of communities and sign up to receive your free weekly newsletter.

It all started with two old friends sharing a good meal and a great bottle of wine. From that conversation, Macaroni Kid was born and Joyce and Nicki started publishing a weekly newsletter giving moms and dads the scoop on all the weekly events in their community. From there it’s grown to dozens of other communities across the Country.

We hope you enjoy it.
