It's October: Time to Recycle Your Bras!

Recycle your old bras for a great cause

By Kindle Rising, Publisher, East Tucson Macaroni Kid October 25, 2012

You know you have a few of them tucked in the back of your lingerie drawer:  The perfectly good bras you bought pre-pregnancy only to realize, um, they don’t exactly fit post-pregnancy. The bra you bought on sale that you thought would be great, but looks all wrong under t-shirts. The nursing bras from when you had your last baby...who is now 6. What is a woman to DO with all of these bras? Recycle them, of course!

October is traditionally dedicated to Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness. In an effort to support these powerful causes, Gilbert, AZ-based company The Bra Recyclers® began Bra Recycling Month in October of 2010. Bra Recycling Month offers women nationwide an opportunity to support these efforts in a different way, by recycling used and unused bras.

Bra Recycling is an economical and environmentally friendly way to give support to women who are breast cancer survivors or transitioning from domestic violence situations. In Tucson, the Bra Recyclers have partnered with New Beginnings, Primavera Foundation and Gospel Rescue Mission to provide bras to women in need.

So, how does one recycle a bra? The Bra Recyclers take clean (yes, please) bras in good condition (functional clasps/straps).  Any sizes are helpful, although larger sizes (38 and up) and special needs/post surgical bras are especially needed.

Recycle your bras during October and you will be entered to win great prizes. The Bra Recyclers will be giving away several prizes just for recycling your bras this month. For a full list of prizes to be raffled off during Bra Recycling Month, please visit www.brarecycling.com and click on the Events tab.

Recycle YOUR bras in three easy steps:

1. Find used and unused bras that you, your family members or friends are no longer wearing and put them in a box or envelope.

2. Fill out the Bra Recycle Form from the website and include it in your box. In order to be eligible for the prize drawing, the Bra Recyclers must receive the Bra Recycling Form with your bras.

3. Mail your bras to 3317 S. Higley Rd, Ste 114-441 Gilbert, AZ 85297

There are also drop-off locations in several states and Canada. Click here for an interactive map to find out if there is a drop-off location near you. Be sure to include your Bra Recycle Form to be entered into the giveaways, even if you drop off locally!

Note: All bras must be postmarked by October 31 to be included in the drawing for prizes.
