"Planes" on Central Pa Live

We recently had the opportunity, along with Miss Melanie and some families from the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library to preview Disney's Movie "Planes", which comes out on BLU-RAY™ COMBO PACK & DIGITAL HD NOVEMBER 19.

November just happens to be National Aviation month, so the release is very timely and the library was ready with some books to recommend to young readers about aviation as well.
What a great night for a movie!  Crisp and cold outside but cozy and warm inside with the aroma of freshly popped popcorn that Miss Melanie had prepared for our guests (there were 30!) We even had a helper with Norah, one of Miss Melanie's young volunteers.

The kids all snuggled down on the floor to watch the movie.  Think "Cars" takes flight and you have an idea of what "Planes" is like.  It's the story of Dusty, a crop dusting plane who wants nothing more than to fly in the greatest air race ever along with the world's fastest flyers.  His only problem? Maybe I should say problems...first, he's NOT built for speed, being a crop duster and secondly, he's afraid of heights!

There are such good messages in this movie.  The characters are likable, the animation is incredible, and judging from our group, it was appealing to all ages and both Moms and Dads.  The plot blended in a little geography, history and science. The humor is smart and our group laughed a lot!

Here are a few of the lines that struck me as such great messages for kids and adults alike:

"It's gonna take both horsepower and willpower to even have a chance."

"You can fly a whole lot higher than you think!"

When Dusty asks "Is this where I'm supposed to be?" the reply is "That's one of life's tough questions."

My favorite: "Does a gigabyte?" "Not if you pet him nicely!"

After the movie, we had some fun and built paper airplanes and balsa wood gliders supplied by Disney.

If you're looking for a great movie to drop in that Holiday Stocking this year, I hope you choose Disney's "Planes".  You won't be disappointed, and your whole family will enjoy it.

I was compensated by Disney to review this movie.
