JENNERSTOWN – The Mountain Playhouse, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, invites all performers in the region to participate in Perform-A-Thon 6 p.m. May 8 through 6 p.m. May 9, a community fundraiser to generate funds for the 2015 season of live professional theater.
The Perform-A-Thon is a 24-hour entertainment marathon during which members of the community – individuals, groups, theater clubs, musicians, vocalists and bands – can showcase their talent on the Mountain Playhouse stage while pledging funds to support the theater. The Mountain Playhouse has operated as a nonprofit organization since 1998. Currently, the theater covers approximately 65 percent of its annual expenses through ticket sales; the remaining costs must be met through fundraising, grants, sponsorships and individual contributions.
“We know that our region is brimming with talented people from all walks of life,” Mountain Playhouse Director of Marketing and Development, Laura Argenbright, said. “We encourage anyone with a special talent – from young beginners to accomplished professionals and senior stars -- to showcase their act while supporting the continuation of live professional theater in the Laurel Highlands. In addition to individuals, we welcome dance academies, music ensembles, school and church groups to participate. Likewise, we urge members of the community to enjoy the array of entertainment as audience members. It’s truly entertainment with a purpose!”
Performers are asked to register online at www.mountainplayhouse.org by filling out the form and pledging $50 for a 20-minute performance slot. Performers will be encouraged to raise additional pledges through personal contacts and an online donation page, accessible through the Mountain Playhouse website.
A select group of vendors will be set up along with a silent auction and other fundraising activities to create a fun festival atmosphere throughout the 24-hour event.
