Simple Christmas Journal Craft

By Melinda Lodge Willis December 22, 2011

Inspired by a Charlotte's Christmas Traditions article, and tired of not being able to recall our Christmas happenings, my 2 yr old helped me put together this simple journal that doubled as a craft for us.

Here it is:

* Recycle your 2011 calendar by using interesting pages from throughout the year.  We used a Norman Rockwell calendar that reminded me of the holiday season.

* Glue each page to a sheet of construction paper.  Repeat for at least 8 pages, so you end up with a page for each day, once cut up.

* Cut each page into 4 equal squares.

* Punch a hole in the top of each square.

* Put 31 pages together by tying the top with a pretty ribbon, raffeta, or other string that is handy.

* Label each page with a date of 1st-31st.

* Remember to add Christmas 2011 or something similar to your front page.  I cut out ‘Merry Christmas’ from a Christmas card we had received.  You can also cut the 2011 out of your calendar that you are using for your pages.

Now you have your journal!  Don’t’ think too hard about what you put in it.  I find this is why sometimes I never get it done!  I put basic things like “Watched the ‘Night Before Christmas’”, ‘Enjoyed Christmas lights on our road tonight!”, and other basic notes.  When the month is over, I plan on putting it in a Ziplock back and putting it with some of my most important Christmas decorations.  Next year when we pull out the boxes to decorate, we will have great memories at our fingertips!
