Free Your Words! November is National Novel Writing Month! 

In the spirit of NaNoWrimo, join us for a 3 week creative writing course designed for teens on November 5, 12 and 19 from 4pm – 6pm. We will explore a variety of methods to generate story ideas, create complex characters, build the world of your story, and more! This class is BYOWU (Bring Your Own Writing Utensil) with everything from pencil and paper to laptops and typewriters permitted and encouraged! Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out and limited to the number of active participants. Due to the current capacity limitations, pre-registration is required. Masks are required for all adults and children over the age of 2. Please call the library at 946-0417 ext. 123 to register.

Join us on November 10 & 24 at 10:30am for a Waldorf inspired time of storytelling, fingerplays, movement and songs, art, and creative play celebrating nature and the seasons during “A Magical Garden”.  Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out and limited to the number of active participants. Crafts will be individually setup with no sharing of materials, or will be bagged to be taken home and completed. Due to the current capacity limitations, pre-registration is required. Children ages 3-5 can Full STEAM Ahead in this free program on November 17 at 10:30am. Little learners will have fun exploring basic STEAM concepts through simple experiments, projects, and play. Simple Machines Super Saturday, November 14 at 10:30am. Discover how simple machines make work easier…as you build realistic models and perform hands-on experiments! Build and use a pulley, an inclined plane, a wheel and axle, and more with Lakeshore Learning’s Simple Machines Activity Lab. Adults must stay with their children and work together on the projects. Recommended for ages 8 & up. Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out and limited to the number of active participants. Crafts will be individually setup with no sharing of materials, or will be bagged to be taken home and completed. Due to the current capacity limitations, pre-registration is required. Family Movie – Mr. Peabody & Sherman, November 14 at 1:00 PM. Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished canine in the world, and his boy, Sherman, use a time machine called the Wabac to embark on outrageous adventures. However, when Sherman takes the Wabac without permission to impress his friend Penny (Ariel Winter), he accidentally rips a hole in the universe and causes havoc with world history. It’s up to Mr. Peabody to mount a rescue and prevent the past, present and future from being permanently altered. Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out. Get to Know Osmo Super Saturday, November 21 at 10:30am. Join us for a fun-filled morning working with OSMO, a tactile learning experience! Use IPads and the Osmo system (provided) to explore a world of interactive games from making pizzas to tanagrams to dress-up characters! This program is suitable for children ages 4-12. Due to social distancing requirements, all activities will be spaced out and limited to the number of active participants. Crafts will be individually setup with no sharing of materials, or will be bagged to be taken home and completed. Due to the current capacity limitations, pre-registration is required. Story Times: Families of young children are invited to check out the Altoona Area Public Library’s FREE educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together! Developmentally appropriate and enjoyable programs for children ages 1-6 are offered weekly.
