Colorful ceramic pigs decorated by kids from The Learning Lamp’s After School Outreach programs will be trotting to local businesses as The Learning Lamp brings back its annual piggy bank fundraiser in February and March. Businesses and community members are asked to host piggy banks, and also to contribute to the ones they see around town.
All spare change collected goes toward funding The Learning Lamp After School Outreach Program, which provide low-income children with four days a week of homework help from a certified teacher, a healthy snack, fun crafts and games, and a character-building curriculum. The Learning Lamp serves about 100 children each year at locations in the Moxham, Prospect and Oakhurst neighborhoods of Johnstown. Your donation of change supports the purchase of classroom supplies, food and time from teachers to work with children on math, reading, spelling and other homework.
The Learning Lamp is a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing the support children need to succeed in school. Our programs are developed in partnership with teachers and school administrators to ensure they benefit the students we serve, providing them with a strong foundation for success in the classroom. “This year, we’re hoping to raise more money for the programs by involving all kinds of area businesses,” said Holly Lees, outreach program coordinator. “Offices can sign up for several piggy banks and actually make it a competition between departments to see which group can raise the most money. We encourage businesses to match the donations of change collected by employees,” she added.
The piggy bank fundraiser kicks off February 1, 2013 and continues through the end of March.
