When the ground is blanketed with snow and everything is white and bright, there is nothing more beautiful than winter in the Laurel Highlands.

The downside of winter here is the extremely dry air and all that comes with it: dry itchy skin and eyes, achy sinuses, sore throats, uncomfortable nasal passages, headaches, coughs, congestion and once in a while a bloody nose. For years now we've had humidifiers in each of our bedrooms that we use at night. They hold 13 gallons of water are very heavy, very hard to clean and noisy. When I was offered the opportunity to try the Vicks Mini Cool Mist Humidifier I jumped at it.

My first impression was that it is very small, light and so easy to fill. The tank lifted right off and I could fill it from the bathroom sink. No filters are required for it either (love this!), though a weekly rinse with white vinegar is recommended to remove scale build up as is a bleach rinse to disinfect the unit. Despite it's small size, it can run overnight without having to be refilled and puts out quite a strong stream of mist and when empty, automatically shuts off. Very quiet too!

Studies have shown that maintaining a relative humidity of 40-60% can reduce survival of the flu virus in the air and on surfaces like sink faucets, door handles, and counter tops...all of the places hands touch and spread germs. The Vicks Mini Cool Mist Humidifier adds essential moisture to the room for relief from the season’s dry air discomforts like those mentioned above. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends cool mist humidifiers to help relieve congestion in infants and toddlers.

The compact size is perfect for a nursery, office, dorm or small bedroom. I find myself carrying mine around with me to add moisture to where I am working at the time. I take it to my basement when I work out, to my office next to my desk while I work and sit it next to me while I work on various craft projects (it does help reduce static.) I'm even sharing it with some of my indoor plants. I run it constantly now. I think even the dogs appreciate the added moisture in the air.

It comes with a VapoPad Scent Pad in menthol. The scent pads are also available in lavender/rosemary and snap right into the front of the unit.
I got a blue one, but the Vicks Mini Cool Mist Humidifier comes in green and pink.
