Create Your Own Cupcake Crayons

By Lori Barrow September 30, 2010

Have you ever been going through your kids art supplies only to find about a hundred broken crayons? Instead of throwing them away, keep them and make your own cupcake crayons! My daughter and I love to do arts and crafts together and she is always asking me to make something for her, so when I ran across this website, it was the perfect blend of creativity, recycling, ease and fun!

I made mine like this:

*Preheat oven to 325 degrees

*Cut crayons into 1 inch pieces and group together however you like

*I used paper liners in my cupcake pan and placed crayons in liners

*Bake for 8-10 minutes

*CAREFULLY place hot cupcake pan into freezer for 45 minutes to an hour (Be especially careful if you have a bottom mount freezer!)

*After crayons are firm, they should easily come out of the cupcake liners.

All in all, it was a great experiment that we intend to try again soon. We're going to stock up on vibrant crayons to see what wacky colors we come up with! Also, if you have a pretty basket, they make very cute pictures!
