Handprint Snowman Christmas Tree Ornament

By Anna Hall, Publisher Mom from Hickory, NC December 15, 2016

My 6 year old daughter made me the cutest Christmas present at school this year!  This would be an easy Christmas craft to make with your kids and a wonderful keepsake for years to come.  Why not make it an annual tradition?

Materials needed:

  • Christmas ball ornament (your choice of color)
  • white paint
  • colored permanent markers
  • paint brush

Instructions:

  1. Paint your child's hand white.  You can choose to paint just the palm and the three middle fingers if you prefer.
  2. Put the colored ball ornament into the palm of your child's hand with the hanger on top; press fingers (slightly spread apart) around the ball.  (For adults, place the ornament at the top of the palm right before the fingers start).
  3. Let the ornament dry.
  4. Add details like eyes, nose, mouth, hat, scarf, buttons, etc with colored markers.
  5. Label the ornament with the year and child's (or adult's) name.
  6. Hang on tree and enjoy!  Or wrap as gifts for close family members.

There was a poem that came with the ornament. It reads as follows:

These aren't just five snowmen,

as anyone can see.

I made them with my hand

which is a part of me.

Now each year when you trim the tree,

you'll look back and recall

Christmas (YEAR)

when my hand was just this small.
