A Crafty Easter

Looking for something for your kids that will let them help decorate for Easter? Maybe you're looking for something to send to a long-distant relative/friend? I've gathered some crafts together that are just the thing!

First some tips for crafting:

  • Use an old shirt as a smock when handling paints - one of dad's, mom's, big brother/sister's will do.
  • Do the crafts with the kids but let them lead - the craft doesn't have to be Instagram Sensation worthy to be perfect! However it turns out, it will be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
  • Sometimes it's okay to go "outside the lines," especially with art! Just because the instructions say to do things a certain way, doesn't mean that has to be the only way. Have fun with it and see how you can make the project your own - add in elements, use different mediums, use unexpected colors, etc.
  • Attention spans are short with kids! Break the craft into smaller portions or let them come and go, so that they don't get bored.
  • Complete any portions that younger kids aren't able to, such as cutting out shapes that little hands aren't able to. Just be sure to keep an eye on yourself that you aren't doing it for all ages; sometimes we're surprised by our kids being able to do something that we've consistently done for them and never thought to let them do it on their own.
  • Have fun! Even if the glitter ends up in the carpet, there's a confetti of tiny pieces of paper all over or your little decides to paint themselves, the dog and you! It's about spending time together and if you can make a memory that you giggle on in years to come, it's even better!
  • Use unexpected items to help - egg cartons or muffin tins for paint or small items, q-tips or a whist for fun designs, a hair dryer to melt crayon drawings and turn them into wax paintings.
  • Use a plastic tablecloth for a reusable cover for your work surface to save your wooden table tops.
